Wounded Warrior softball team to play at Wright State Saturday

The Wounded Warrior amputee softball team is playing two exhibition games Saturday at Ron Nischwitz Baseball Stadium at Wright State University.

Game No. 1 starts at 1 p.m. against military all-stars from Wright-Patterson Force Base, including Maj. Brian Spurlock of Wilmington. Game No. 2 starts at 3:30 p.m. and pits the Wounded Warrior amputee softball team against all-stars from the Dayton Legends Softball Club.

The Wounded Warrior amputee softball team is a charitable organization whose mission is to inspire and educate others while enhancing the health and welfare of Wounded Warrior amputees. The team consists of competitive, athletic veterans who have lost limbs while serving their country. The team represents all branches of the military and includes veterans with a variety of amputations.

Between games, Miami Valley veterans service organizations such as the American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans of America, Disabled American Veterans, AmVets, and many others are invited to be recognized and honored in ceremonies on the field.

All the day’s events are fund-raisers for the new Fisher House being built on the grounds of the Dayton VA Medical Center and Honor Flight: Dayton.
